Dr. Ivis Renee King is an Assistant Professor at Clark Atlanta University in the School of Social Work. She has had an extensive career in child welfare in the state of Georgia and focuses her research on Social Services Policy, Planning, and Administration, and on the Afrocentric Perspective. Dr. King’s experience within the human services field spans approximately 25 years within the Georgia state government and the nonprofit sector. Dr. King’s professional experience in social service provisions in Georgia includes the Division of Family and Children Services, the Department of Juvenile Justice, and the Department of Correction. Her professional tenure outlines progressive experience at various state and county organizational levels. She teaches in both the MSW and BSW programs. She has taught Practice Competencies, Human Behavior and the Social Environment, Writing for Social Work, Colorism: Does Color Matter?, and Field Seminar. Additionally, she is a Faculty Learning Coordinator for Digital Learning Dynamics and has Quality Matters certification for Online Course Peer-Reviewer. Dr. King is Co-PI on a research grant funded by the AUCC Data Science Initiative and Google Health to develop a Social Work Data Corps summer program for students to conduct research related to social determinants of health. Dr. King's current research explores racial disproportionality in child welfare systems under a consent decree.
