Daniel Gibbs is a doctoral candidate in the School of Social Work at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His research focuses primarily on improving professional decision-making within the child welfare and mental health systems through innovative data science solutions, high-quality interprofessional collaboration, and effective judicial procedures. Daniel currently works as a research assistant with Drs. Paul Lanier And Allison Metz, and has formerly worked with Dr. David Ansong and the Program on Evidence-Building in Child Welfare. Before arriving at UNC-Chapel Hill, Daniel practiced as an attorney representing the interests of children involved in the child welfare system. Daniel also engaged in policy advocacy regarding children and families, and participated in data-driven permanency interventions for youth at risk of aging out of foster care. He has taught courses on policy analysis, policy advocacy, and program evaluation in graduate schools of social work at the University of South Carolina, Winthrop University, and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
