Keya received an MSW degree at the University of South Carolina a BSW from Bennett College. She has functioned as a direct care practice social worker for almost twenty years providing services in the arenas of child welfare, hematology social work with a special focus on sickle cell disease, community mental health, intensive in-home services, clinical supervision and currently provides psychotherapy to college students in an HBCU setting. A clinically trained social worker, Keya is pursuing a Joint PhD in Social Work at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she is engaged in research opportunities that support her interests of identifying culturally relevant mental health practices within the African American college student population. On a broader scale, she is also interested in exploring issues related to the experiences of the African American population and their mental health. Keya intends to further research these experiences and to identify culturally relevant practices that effectively address the unique challenges she encountered in her years of serving this underserved population.
