Dr. Angela Tobin is an occupational therapist (OTD), who earned her doctorate degree from The Ohio State University in May of 2022. Angela’s interest in working with kinship families sparked from personal experience, as she watched her grandparents raise her cousin (their grandson), who now lives with Angela’s parents. Angela has a bachelor’s degree in educational psychology from Mississippi State University, where she was also a member of the “Grandfamilies” research lab in the psychology department. Aside from personal experience, Angela has professional expertise working with kinship families. Angela founded and currently conducts Kinship Caregivers Connect, an online support group for kinship caregivers in Ohio. She was the recipient of the Albert Schweitzer fellowship to start the group in June of 2020, and is now partnered with OhioKAN, a state-funded organization. Dr. Tobin also has worked with Dr. Ramona Denby in the School of Social Work at UNC on several research projects related to kinship families. She completed her doctoral capstone project with The Ohio Statewide Family Engagement Center at OSU, where she developed and presented online professional development around engaging and supporting kinship families in the schools. Dr. Tobin's support group has reached university-wide and state-wide recognition. She was awarded the Jane-Case Smith Outstanding Student Award from the Ohio Occupational Therapy Association, as well as the Engaged Scholars Grant, The Scholarship of Excellence Award, The Legacy Award, and the Hite Family Scholarship.
