Amelia Seraphia Derr, MSW, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Social Work and the BSW Program Director at Seattle University. Dr. Derr’s research examines the nexus between social and health service systems and the migration experience; specifically the role of local sectors – both government and nonprofit - in promoting socially just contexts of reception for migrants. She researches barriers to social, mental health, and health services for migrants and factors that promote service access and parity. Dr. Derr is also engaged in efforts to infuse resilience-building skills into social work education.
