Graduate Student
UNC Chapel Hill School of Social Work, United States
Portia Taylor is a first-year graduate student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Social Work with a concentration in Direct Practice. She is part of the 2017 undergraduate class of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte where she studied psychology, Africana
studies, and women’s and gender studies. Portia plans to make a lifelong effort of using community experiences and her own intellect to consistently and thoughtfully extend her talents to the social, political, and economic movements of North Carolinians. Portia currently serves as the Director of Community Engagement on the board of a state coalition, NC Women United, and as a steering committee member for the Ella Baker Organizing Collective. And most recently she accepted a position on the board of Action NC, an organization with a longstanding history of progressive grassroots organizing in the state. Over time Portia has come to view a healthy mindset, equitable resources, and a reliable support system as the necessary foundations to a stable and fulfilling life. This belief is what led Portia to pursue a Master's of Social Work and ultimately a career as a licensed clinical social worker.
