Born and raised in Boston, Dwayne James is currently a practicing social worker in New York City, and Washington, DC. With a passion for youth development and mental health education, he aspires to educate as many people as he can with the foundational knowledge of mental health. Dwayne began his training in social work at Adelphi University, where he obtained both his Bachelor’s and Master’s in Social Work with a focus in Psychotherapy. In 2021 Dwayne began his PhD in Social Work at Howard University. In 2017, Dwayne launched “What up Wayne” Podcast with the mission to connect and motivate listeners to follow their passions while providing entertaining and comedic nuance with guests who are making strides in their various professions. In late 2018, Dwayne’s passion for mental health continued to grow and “Mental Wellness Mondays” was created. “Mental Wellness Mondays” is a weekly video discussion touching base on many different avenues of mental health; from identifying mental illnesses, coping with mental illness, and self-care practices. Dwayne’s passion for mental health education is an ever-burning flame that continues to bring light to many individuals near and far hindered by the shadows of mental illness.
