Tyrone M. Parchment, Ph.D., LCSW is an Assistant Professor and founding Co-Director of the Black Leadership Initiative at Boston College School of Social Work. He is also a recent graduate of the Academy of African Centered Social Work through the National Association of Black Social Workers. Dr. Parchment’s research program is informed by almost a decade of direct clinical practice and research experience. His scholarly interests include investigating how gender, familial, cultural, and other psychosocial, contextual factors influence behavioral health and family well-being and developing applied theoretically grounded culturally responsive programs and interventions for improving children’s and families' behavioral and mental health outcomes. Specifically, he is interested in focusing on family strengthening and improving mental and behavioral health among racially and ethnically marginalized communities. The overarching question that guides his research is, what would social work practice, policy, curriculum, and pedagogy look like when we center on the lived experiences of people from the African diaspora.
