Deborah Adams, PhD, was Director of the MSW Program and Associate Professor in the School of Social Welfare at the University of Kansas until her retirement in 2022. She is currently a co-editor of the Journal of Community Practice. She earned her MSW at Washington University in St. Louis as a Dean’s Fellow and then practiced with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities to end violence against women for several years. Adams returned to Washington University as an Olin Fellow for her PhD and worked with the Center for Social Development as a post-doctoral scholar before accepting a faculty appointment at the University of Kansas. Her research interests include asset building strategies and asset effects for lower-income families, policies and programs designed to end poverty and expand opportunity, and the social and economic well-being of women and children. Adams taught graduate policy and research classes in the MSW and PhD programs at the School of Social Welfare. She is a board member and former Chair of the Association for Community Organization and Social Action (ACOSA) and a Board member of the Special Commission for the Advancement of Macro Practice (SC).
