Dominique Maywald obtained her Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree and Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from the University of West Florida. She obtained her Doctorate of Social Work (DSW) from Tulane University. Dr. Maywald is currently an Assistant Professor at Jacksonville State University. She has 6 years’ practice experience providing clinical mental health services to children, adults, and families. Prior to that she maintained a Jobs for Veterans Service Grant under the Department of Economic Opportunity in Northwest Florida. Dr. Maywald served 2 years as an AmeriCorps member and 8 years as a combat medic in the United States Army (Air Assault). Dr. Maywald’s main areas of interest include increasing access to mental health services in black and brown communities, social work professional ethics, veterans professional help seeking habits, experiences of black female social workers, disrupting the school to prison pipeline, and increasing educational equity for students of color with protected disabilities.
