Lamont D. Simmons is an Assistant Professor in the School of Social Work at Salem State University. He teaches undergraduate courses in macro human behavior, privilege and oppression, policy, field seminar, and a first-year seminar for men of color. His scholarship examines the manner in which background, psychological, institutional, and other contextual factors influence persistence and degree attainment outcomes for marginalized and excluded students in social work and higher education. In his teaching, Dr. Simmons promotes student growth through active learning experiences, and reflective and reflexive practices, and offers a healthy balance of challenge and support. He holds current membership in national social work organizations, serves on numerous committees and has been an appointed member of the Council on Racial, Ethnic, and Cultural Diversity since July 1, 2018.
