Carla Baskin is no stranger to advocacy, team collaboration, and being an enforcer for social change. Working in the field of social services for nearly 20 years, she is currently a Certified Mental Health Therapist working as a Lifeset Specialist with youth aging out of the foster care system in the Central Mississippi area. Carla is a 3rd year Social Work Ph.D. student at Jackson State University. She is originally from Greenville, MS where she attended and graduated from Greenville High School. Carla received her BSW degree from Mississippi State University in 2000, and her MSW degree from Jackson State University in 2019. Carla has worked in numerous behavioral health agencies with both youth and adults. She has run a social services department for an elderly and disabled apartment community, and has served children, youth, and families in and across the Jackson Metro area. She has a passion for children and young adults and believes everyone deserves a chance.
Although this merely covers a brief synopsis of her extensive work background, Carla is most excited about her continued collaboration with like-minded professionals locally and nationally, to lobby for cultural and social change across the country. Carla was one of the 41 individuals selected across the U.S. to serve as a 2018-2019 Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) Minority Fellow in which she was given the opportunity, to advocate on Capitol Hill for more funding in the mental health education arena.
