Susan Halverson is a doctoral student in Portland State University’s School of Social Work, where she studies neighborhoods, community power, and hate incidents. She also leads small business Elemental Initiatives, using research and evaluation to advance the livability of communities. Previously, she led entrepreneurship programs for those underrepresented in entrepreneurship at Arizona State University, and worked as a community organizer on campaigns for neighborhood infrastructure, financial justice, environmental justice, voter engagement, and access to health care. Her master's research focused on the role of storytelling in the movement to pass the DREAM Act.
