Biographical Data:
Brianna Garrison,PhD, LCSW, is an Assistant Professor at Southern Connecticut State University in the department of social work and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker [LCSW] with practice experience in gerontological social work. She earned her Ph.D. in Social Work from Baylor University and is a graduate of the University of Houston’s Master of Social Work program. While at the University of Houston, Brianna also earned a graduate certificate in Health Disparities. Brianna was a pre-dissertation fellow with the Association of Gerontology Education in Social Work (AGESW). Brianna received the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health's Frances Fowler Wallace Memorial Award for mental health dissertation research. Dr. Garrison has received funding from the Administration on Community Living in support of interdisciplinary research that examines social network access and opportunities for connection through local faith communities for vulnerable and isolated older adults. Brianna’s research interests include gerontological social work, health disparities, health equity, mental health for older adults, social connection for older adults, and career resiliency for gerontological social workers. Her work explores the various factors that impact social connection for older adults, particularly those who are vulnerable, experiencing cognitive decline, and isolated.
