Dr. Lisa Reyes Mason is a social worker, scholar, and advocate for climate justice. Through engaged and collaborative research, she has studied urban water insecurity in the Philippines, weather extremes and health in the Southeastern U.S., and social aspects of green infrastructure in diverse U.S. communities. Currently an Associate Professor at the University of Denver Graduate School of Social Work, Dr. Mason co-leads the Grand Challenge for Social Work to “Create Social Responses to a Changing Environment.” She also co-edited the book People and Climate Change: Vulnerability, Adaptation, and Social Justice.
Biracial and bicultural, Dr. Mason draws inspiration from her maternal roots in the Philippines and from her paternal roots in rural northern California. She is also a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer, having served in Guinea, West Africa, from 1998-2000. Dr. Mason received her PhD and MSW from Washington University in St. Louis, and her BA from the University of Pennsylvania.
