Emma Sexton grew up in a small, rural town outside of Scranton, PA. She received a Bachelor of Science in Biobehavioral Health from the Pennsylvania State University in 2014. After graduation, she briefly worked with children with developmental disabilities before taking a job as an intake caseworker at a county child welfare agency. This experience, coupled with previous experience working in a hospital setting, inspired her to pursue a dual master’s in public health (MPH) and Social Work (MSW) degree, which she completed in 2021. Currently, Emma is a part of a collaborative maternal child health team at the Institute for Human Development at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where she leverages her skills as a macro social worker and public health practitioner. She is deeply committed to understanding social justice, the social determinants of health, communities of care, and health equity
