My research is centered on social and environmental determinants that influence the health and well-being of children from low-income and racial/ethnic minority families. Particularly, I am interested in identifying the effects of adverse childhood experiences on chronic diseases such as obesity and how these effects are mediated by child health behaviors including dietary behaviors, physical activity, sedentary behavior, and sleep. The ultimate goal of my research is to develop, implement, and disseminate effective prevention and intervention strategies to promote healthy behaviors and thereby enhance the health equity of high-risk children.
