Jason Mallonee, DSW, LCSW is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Work at The University of Texas at El Paso. Dr. Mallonee brings to academia over 7 years of direct social work practice experience as a mental health clinician and program administrator working with individuals with more serious mental health conditions, survivors of sexual abuse and assault, children and adults in crisis, adolescents and adults with substance use disorders, LGBTQ individuals, and Veterans. Dr. Mallonee earned a BA in Visual Art from Oberlin College in 2001, an MA in education from Antioch University in 2007, an MSW from the University of Southern California in 2013, and a DSW from the University of Pennsylvania in 2020. Dr. Mallonee’s research interests include mental health treatment disparities, factors impacting social work service delivery, help-seeking, treatment engagement, therapeutic alliance, therapist empathy, and food insecurity. Dr. Mallonee is currently implementing three funded research studies exploring food insecurity and food pantry outcomes during the COVID-19 pandemic, mental health help-seeking and treatment utilization for Hispanic adults in the U.S.-Mexico border region, and the development and pilot testing of a community-grounded mental health engagement program.
