Dr. Isiah Marshall, Jr., is a native of Houston, Texas. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a minor concentration in Biology in 1996 from Texas Southern University in Houston (TX). In 1998, Dr. Marshall earned the Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from Howard University (D.C.) and subsequently he earned the Doctor of Philosophy degree in Sociology (concentration in Urban Sociology and Criminology) also from Howard University in 2008. From 2014-2016, Dr. Marshall was named a Health Leadership Fellow with the Health Foundation of Western and Central New York.
In June 2022, Dr. Marshall was named Dean and Professor of The Ethelyn R. Strong School of Social Work at Norfolk State University (NSU), Norfolk, Virginia. Prior to his appointment at NSU, Dr. Marshall held teaching and administrative positions at Jackson State University, Daemen College, and Winston-Salem State University.
Dr. Marshall has authored more than a dozen scholarly articles in top-tier journals such as the Journal of Human Behavior in the Social Environment; Journal of Evidence Based Social Work; Urban Social Work; Journal of Social Work Education; and Social Work in Healthcare. Dr. Marshall currently is a Commissioner, Commission on Accreditation (COA) with the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE); he is a member of the National Association of Black Social Workers and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
