Tamu is a first-year student in the Social Work Policy, Planning, and Administration Social Science Ph.D. program at Clark Atlanta University's Whitney M. Young Jr. School of Social Work. Her research interests include child welfare services, specifically, foster youth education and aging out of the foster care system and investigating the resilience factors that enable youth with foster care histories to successfully complete college.
Tamu earned a Master of Arts in Education from Central Michigan University before attending the Whitney M. Young Jr. School of Social Work at Clark Atlanta University. Her thesis was titled Strategies for Implementing Total Quality Management in Schools. Tamu earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Emory University, with an emphasis in Human Resources, Marketing, and Entrepreneurship.
She has spent the last thirteen years educating her three children and helping other parents with curriculum preparation, study skills, and college matriculation. She has counseled several high school graduates who have been awarded full scholarships to prestigious universities(University of Chicago, Hampton University and Xavier University of Louisiana).
Tamu also collaborates with Jamaica's National Children's Home developing a structured and standardized mentorship program for orphans. She also facilitates donations for the children's necessities (toiletries and school supplies). Her heart is positioned to serve the vulnerable and underserved, ensuring that children are given the opportunity to live out their full potential.
