Suh Chen Hsiao joined the practicum education faculty in 2010. For the last decade, Professor Hsiao was a psychiatric social worker, team leader and administrator with the Los Angeles Unified School District's School Mental Health unit under Student Health & Human Service Division. There, she worked as a therapist, team leader and administrator overseeing the San Pedro Clinic, a LAUSD mental-health clinic that assists children and families in several South Bay cities. Six of those years, Professor Hsiao trained and supervised over 45 MSW interns from different universities including UCLA, Cal State Universities of Long Beach, Dominguez Hills, and MFT/Art Therapist interns from Loyola Marymount University.
In 2007, Professor Hsiao earned an Outstanding Field Instructor award for from the University of Southern California. Before joining LAUSD, the Taiwanese native worked for LA County Department of Mental Health-Edelman Children's System of Care providing individual, family and group interventions as well serving as the LPS designated mental health clinician to provide emergency mental health assessment and crisis interventions to group home high risk youth. She provided clinical supervision to clinic ASW staff and as a Supervising Psychiatric Social Worker who manages school-based program and outpatient clinic services.
