Kerri Evans, PhD, MSW, LCSW received her PhD from Boston College and her MSW for the University of Maryland School of Social Work. Kerri is currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County where she teaches policy in the BSW program. She studies ways to minimize social isolation for young refugees and unaccompanied minors including bullying prevention, social skills groups, school involvement, mentoring and the like. Prior to earning her PhD she worked as a social worker for 8 years: she was the program manager at a national Refugee Resettlement agency for the Unaccompanied Refugee Minor program; was a case manager working with unaccompanied minors released from immigration detention; and worked as a consultant for the department of child welfare to assist in finding permanency for foreign-born youth in foster care.
