Allison Carrington (she/they) is a doctoral student in Social Work, with a minor in College Teaching, at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). She earned an MSW degree from UIUC and previously earned a BS degree in social work and psychology from University of Wisconsin- Whitewater. Their research interests include social work education, criminal legal content, social justice theory, and collaboration across disciplines.
Allison teaches "Program Evaluation" and "HBSE II: Mental Disorders" for the iMSW program and consults for the university's Writers Workshop. Previously, they were a Graduate Teaching Assistant for an interdisciplinary "History of the Prison" course and a social work diversity course. Additionally, she was a Graduate Research Assistant for numerous projects: domestic violence prevention planning; peer-enhanced motivational interviewing (PMI) for substance-using emerging adults; a civic engagement curriculum for high school students; and youth in detention, domestic battery, and sex offenses projects.
Allison's practice experiences included the areas of adult institutions, adult probation services, a Mental Health Juvenile Justice program, and an Intensive Outpatient Program specialized in Dialectical Behavior Therapy for adolescents.
