Shelby is a third-year PhD student at the University of Minnesota School of Social Work. In 2017, Shelby received a B.A. in psychology and English with minors in statistics and gender, women, and sexuality studies from the University of Minnesota, Morris. Working with their undergraduate advisor, Shelby co-authored a paper titled “Asexual-identified adults: Interactions with health care practitioners." In 2019, Shelby graduated with a M.S. in clinical psychology from Eastern Michigan University, where they worked with their advisor on research related to microaggressions and social prejudice. Before beginning their doctoral program, Shelby worked as a research coordinator and research assistant at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities Medical School. Shelby currently works as a research assistant with the University of Minnesota's Autism and Neurodevelopmental Clinic in the department of Pediatrics, and as a pre-doctoral fellow with Minnesota Leadership and Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities. Shelby’s research interests are in health equity and health care policy, especially as they affect the intersecting LGBTQ and disability communities.
