Adelphi University
, United States
In addition to his position as Assistant Dean of Program Development and Community Engagement at Adelphi University’s School of Social Work, Dr. Ohiro Oni-Eseleh is also the Director of the Hudson Valley Center of the School. Prior to entering academia, he held management positions in health care organizations and was instrumental in program development, creating and implementing policies, and supporting the workforce of organizations through training and interdepartmental collaborative work. Dr. Oni-Eseleh is also an adjunct professor in Adelphi University School of Social Work. According to Dr. Oni-Eseleh, teaching gives him an opportunity to guide and mentor students in learning what it means to be a professional social worker, a respecter of diversity, human rights and social justice, and how to develop appropriate professional judgment. He also teaches because doing so keeps him intellectually engaged with the current state of social work knowledge. He believes that consistent intellectual engagement and acquisition of new knowledge make an active learner out of a teacher and, second, that the pursuit and sharing of knowledge keep him in a constant process of renewal, two values that are very dear to him. Dr. Oni-Eseleh initiated the Anti Racism Forum at the Hudson Valley Center of Adelphi University School of Social Work and he is a member of Adelphi University's Academic Diversity Implementation Committee. He is also the Co-Chair of the committee tasked with developing the university's Doctor of Social Work (DSW) program.
