Joy Swanson Ernst is Associate Professor at the Wayne State University School of Social Work, where she served as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs between 2016 and 2019. Prior to joining the Wayne State faculty in 2016, she was Professor of Social Work and director of the social work program at Hood College in Frederick, Maryland. She received her PhD in 1999 from the University of Maryland School of Social Work. Dr. Ernst is a Hartford Geriatric Social Work Faculty Scholar and her research interests include social welfare history, the impact of climate-related disasters on older adults, elder mistreatment, adult protective services (APS) programs, and adult day programs for persons with dementia.
