Deborah Phillips is an associate professor in the Department of Social Work at Appalachian State University. She is also the MSW program director. Her research interests are centered upon healthy early child and family development as it intersects with poverty. She teaches primarily macro classes in both the BSW and MSW programs. She has worked with runaway and homeless adolescents and with grandparents raising grandchildren. She is active in the community with agencies that serve children, address housing problems, and support a girl's school in India. She is also involved with the Social Worker Equity Campaign that seeks to improve pay and working conditions for social workers.
