Taking Steps to Establish an Anti-racism Framework for a Social Work Program

Learning Objectives:

• participants will be able to lead critical conversations to explain a contextual, conceptual, and theoretical rationale for establishing an anti-racist approach and liberatory consciousness framework for a social work program, remains true to the vision and values of the, profession and responds to calls to racial justice and liberation.
• participants will discover how an anti-racist approach and liberatory consciousness framework should be articulated in macro social work coursework. Specifically, we argue that this calls for macro courses that emphasize how racism is embedded in the structures and procedures of social service organizations, policy systems, and institutions.
• 3. Upon completion of this presentation, participants will identify the importance of writing anti-racist objectives in learning contracts, as well as exploring this in supervision and using process recordings to address issues around race and racism that might arise in their field practicum.
