Background: Ethnic rhinoplasty continues to be a daunting procedure for even experienced rhinoplasty surgeons. Many surgeons continue to struggle with both the technical approach and aesthetic ideals, especially in the setting of thick skin. Learning Objective: To study technical pearls which the senior authors have utilized when performing African American rhinoplasty. Study Objective: To determine the technical details that can be used during surgery to facilitate success in ethnic rhinoplasty. Design Study: Technical review of technique and results in 20 patients with follow up of at least 1 year. Method: Review of an open septorhinoplasty approach in 20 patients who underwent ethnic rhinoplasty at one center with two senior authors. Results: Twenty patients had successfully achieved their aesthetic and functional goals using specific techniques that can help make this procedure more accessible to other surgeons. Conclusion: Specific techniques utilizing an open septorhinoplasty approach allows for successful achievement of aesthetic and functional goals in African American rhinoplasty patients.
