Billina R. Shaw, MD, MPH, FAPA
Dr. Billina Shaw is a Senior Medical Advisor within the Center for Mental Health Services at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Previously, she served as the Medical Director of the Behavioral Health Division of the Prince George’s County Health Department, in Prince George’s County, Maryland. She is triple board certified in the areas of child, adolescent, and adult psychiatry and addiction medicine.
Dr. Shaw attended Yale University for her undergraduate studies. She graduated with distinction in the psychology major while completing her premedical studies. She then received her Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. In 2007, she moved to Baltimore for her general adult psychiatry residency and child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at the University of Maryland/Sheppard Pratt where she served as Chief Resident of the Psychiatric Emergency Services and Chief Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Ambulatory Services Fellow. While in training, she received numerous awards for cultural competence and was an American Psychiatric Association (APA) Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Minority Fellow. Dr. Shaw later joined the faculty of the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She is also an alumnus of the Bloomberg Fellowship Program in the area of Addictions and Overdose at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health where received a Master’s degree in Public Health.
