Dr. Sharon Parish is a Professor of Medicine in Clinical Psychiatry and a Professor of Clinical Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College, the Director of Medical Services at New York Presbyterian Westchester Behavioral Health Center, and president emeritus (2014-2016) of the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health (ISSWSH). She received her medical degree from Albany Medical College of Union University, completed her residency in Internal Medicine at George Washington University Hospital, and general internal medicine fellowship at New York University/ Bellevue Hospital Center. In addition to her academic and hospital clinical responsibilities, she maintains an active faculty practice specializing in sexual medicine and menopause for men and women. She treats a wide range of conditions, with an individualized and integrated approach that incorporates both a medical evaluation and a biopsychosocial assessment to an integrated plan of care. She has developed curricula and educational programs for undergraduate, graduate, and post graduate medical education that address fundamental areas in psychosocial medicine, such as interviewing and empathy skills, psychiatric diagnosis and management, and patient education and compliance, as well as specialized areas such as sexual medicine, motivational interviewing, substance abuse disorders, and women’s mental health. She has authored many publications and online materials on an array of related topics. Her academic activities have also included participation in international and national society committees and consultantships; lectures, symposia, and web-based educational programs; national and international society leadership roles; and editorial positions in several sexual medicine peer-reviewed journals.
