Dr. Steven Fischel is the Program Director of the UMass Chan-Baystate Psychiatry Residency Program at Baystate Medical Center and Vice Chair for Academic Affairs in the Department of Psychiatry at Baystate Health. He is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at UMass Chan Medical School - Baystate and is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Psychiatry with subspecialty certification in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry. He completed his M.D.at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and his internship and residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston where he was Chief Resident on the Psychiatry Consultation Service and a fellow in the Postgraduate Program in Psychodynamic Psychiatry. Dr. Fischel has been active in consultation-liaison psychiatry and medical student / residency education throughout his career. He has been a training director for 14 years and was formerly the Medical Director of the Psychiatry Consultation Service at Baystate Medical Center for 15 years. Dr. Fischel is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the APA where he is a member of the Council on Medical Education and Lifelong Learning. He is also a Fellow of the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry where he is a member of the Residency Education Subcommittee and a member of AADPRT where he is on the Mentorship Committee.
