Sukanya V. Vartak, MD is a psychiatry resident at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. She comes from Mumbai, India moving to the U.S. to pursue education at Texas Tech where she received her bachelors in science Biology from Texas Tech University. She then went on to pursue her Doctor of Medicine from St. George’s University in Grenada. She also continues to mentor aspiring medical students as an alumni member of St. George's University since her graduation in 2019. During her residency, she has been involved in numerous projects such as the Anti-Human Trafficking, developed the anti-racism curriculum for the psychiatry residency program and teaches classes to all PGY levels on this subject matter. She plans to pursue a career in Consult/Liaison Psychiatry, which is what led her to collaborating with the cardiothoracic surgery department at her hospital to study the impact of Aortic Disease on patients’ mental health and health outcomes. She hopes to continue to foster a multidisciplinary collaboration between medicine and psychiatry to improve outcomes for patients.
