Gerald A. Shiener, M. D. is a graduate of Cass technical High School in Detroit. He attended Wayne State University undergraduate, and Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, graduating in 1975 with the degree of Medical Doctor. Dr. Shiener trained in Psychiatry at Sinai Hospital of Detroit. He is the Chief of Consultation Liaison Psychiatry at Sinai Hospital, and is now the Chief of Psychiatry at Sinai Grace Hospital. He has been the department psychiatrist for both the Detroit Police Department and the Detroit Fire Department. He is a Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences at Wayne State University School of Medicine. Dr. Shiener remains active in the community and often acts as a consultant to news outlets and the media. As a forensic psychiatrist, he is involved in both civil and criminal matters as a consultant and expert. He often presents as a visiting speaker to professional and lay audiences both locally and nationally. He is also a marathon runner and avid scuba diver.
