Dr. Amela Blekic graduated from the University of Sarajevo, School of Medicine, Bosnia and Herzegovina and worked as a general practitioner during the Bosnian war, then in 1997 immigrated to the United States.
Dr. Blekic was originally employed by American Red Cross, then in 1999 joined Oregon Health & Science University, Department of Psychiatry, and worked at the Intercultural Psychiatric Program establishing Bosnian Clinic for Mental Health.
Since completing her Psychiatry Residency at Oregon Health & Science University in 2009, she has held a number of roles, currently serving as the Director of Inpatient and Emergency Consultation Services and leading the Clinical Services for Department of Psychiatry. She integrates her commitment to patients’ care and education of medical students, psychiatry residents and fellows with her passion for Consultation Liaison Psychiatry, Cultural Psychiatry, Cultural Competence and Health Equity.
Dr. Blekic is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry.
