Dr. Sales is a double-board certified Consultation-Liaison Psychiatrist in Birmingham, AL. He received his MD and Master's in Science from the Universidade Federal do Ceara, Brazil, after developing an animal model of catatonia using spinal repetitive electromagnetic stimulation. He was a chief resident of the SUNY Health Sciences Center adult psychiatry program in Brooklyn, NY, and finished his fellowship in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry at Brown University. Along with Dr. Luis Pereira, he co-chairs the HIV/AIDS Psychiatry Special Interest Group (SIG) while also being interested in burnout/physician wellness, catatonia, and bipolar spectrum disorders.
