Pedro Silvestre Marra is an undergraduate student at the University of Iowa studying Biomedical Sciences under the Pre-Med track. He is part of the Honors and Presidential Scholars Program and is also an International Student Ambassador at the university. He has received multiple research fellowships from the Iowa Center for Research by Undergraduates (ICRU) to conduct research at the Shinozaki lab (Department of Psychiatry). He has also received the Excellence in Undergraduate Research Award in 2022, which is only given to five students per year by ICRU. Shinozaki lab’s primary research topic is delirium. In the lab, Pedro has worked in collecting and analyzing EEG data, collecting patients’ information from medical records, extracting DNA, performing genome-wide DNA methylation analysis, and managing the lab’s web page. His work has already contributed to multiple peer-review publications, ranging from topics such as delirium, sepsis, and metformin.
