I am the Winifred Mercer Pitkin, MD Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) and Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. I am one of a handful of formally trained and practicing neuroinfectious disease clinician-scientists in the United States (T32 NS069351-01) actively involved in translational and clinical research on emerging and re-emerging neurotropic infectious diseases. The focus of my research has been around the clinical implementation of advanced diagnostic tools and biomarkers in acute CNS infections. I have performed impactful scientific and public health activities around three major neuroinfectious disease outbreaks and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. I am the Director of the Program in Neuroinfectious Diseases and Related Disorders, and the post-doctoral research fellowship director in neuroinfectious diseases at Columbia University Irving Medical Center for physician-scientists from low income or lower middle income countries.
