Dr. Athanasiadi was born and raised in Greece. She attended Democritus University in Greece where she also completed a Master’s Degree in Social Psychiatry. She completed residency training at New York Medical College/Westchester Medical Center and served as the chief resident. During residency, she attended several courses on psychoanalytic psychotherapy and some of her clinical interests include mental illness in people with IBD and GI comorbidities, women’s health, personality disorders and psychodynamic psychotherapy. Dr. Athanasiadi believes that patients should be evaluated holistically, integrating the biopsychosocial model in diagnosis and treatment. CL psychiatry represents that philosophy. She enjoys working collaboratively and liaison with different services as part of a larger team and finds that to be a very rewarding experience. After the completion of her Consult and Liaison Psychiatry fellowship in University of Maryland Medical Center, she has accepted a position as a CL Psychiatry attending and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Augusta University Medical College of Georgia.
