Advanced Patient Care Pharmacist - Cystic Fibrosis and Specialty Pharmacy

Dr. Emily Stephan is an Advanced Patient Care Pharmacist at the Adult and Pediatric Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Centers at Nationwide Children's Hospital (NCH) in Columbus, Ohio. She completed her residency in community care pharmacy at this same institution where she developed a passion for ambulatory care. Upon graduation she worked at the NCH outpatient pharmacies as well as for the nation’s largest pediatric accountable care organization, Partners for Kids. In 2015 she began her work helping patients with cystic fibrosis by taking on the charge to begin the Nationwide Children's Hospital Specialty Pharmacy. Since this time she has been the primary pharmacist responsible for initiating and educating over 300 patients on cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator protein (CFTR) modulator therapies. As a clinic based pharmacist she continues collaborate with the multidisciplinary care team to provide pharmacotherapy in a safe, effective, and affordable manner to patients.
With 7 years of experience in the CF clinic, she has learned an immense amount about CF medications, their interactions with psychotropic medications, and their impact on mood and quality of life. She feels truly fortunate to help others every day and combine her knowledge of medications and population health to work towards our patients' best outcomes. She feels privileged to be collaborating with the CF care team and patients with CF to effectively and efficiently assess mental health in the setting of CFTR modulator use.
