Staff Psychiatrist
UMass Chan Medical School--Baystate
Dr. Riyaz is a Staff Psychiatrist on the Psychiatry Consultation Service at Baystate Medical Center and serves as the Psychiatry Clerkship Site Director for the University of Massachusetts Medical School PURCH tract.
She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Miami where she majored in Biology with a minor in English. She graduated from Ross University School of Medicine in Dominica, West Indies. Dr. Riyaz completed her Adult Psychiatry Residency training at Baystate Medical Center where served as one of the Psychiatry Chief Residents. Dr. Riyaz completed her Psychosomatic Fellowship training at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City. Dr. Riyaz returned to Baystate following her fellowship training and currently works with residents as they rotate on the Adult Psychiatric Consultation service, supervises residents during their Emergency Psychiatry rotation and is also the department liaison for Quality Improvement and Safety. Dr. Riyaz is board certified by the American Board of Neurology and Psychiatry as well as the American Board of Psychosomatic Medicine. Dr Riyaz’s current interest include quality improvement, patient safety and managing chronic psychiatric illness using team-based approaches.
While Dr. Riyaz is originally a native of South Florida, she has come to develop a great appreciation for the Pioneer Valley and has found her new home in New England. In her spare time she enjoys traveling, spending time with friends and family and exploring the local foodie hotspots in Western Massachusetts.
