Dr. Alvarez is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Medical College of Wisconsin and serves as the Director of Behavioral Health Integration in Primary Care at Froedtert Health. After getting her BA in Religion from Swarthmore College, she received both her MD and Master’s in Public Health at Tulane, concentrating on International Health. She completed her postgraduate training in combined Internal Medicine/Psychiatry at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, where she served as Chief Resident. Through interprofessional education, she trains medical personnel in behavioral interventions and raises the capacity of psychiatrists to manage medical conditions. Currently, she is working on expanding Integrated Behavioral Health to include primary care-based medication assisted treatment for opiate and alcohol use disorders and is starting a new Internal Medicine/Psychiatry residency at MCW. She serves on the board of Renaissance Theaterworks and is a foster mom to a 10 and 1 year old.
