Dr. Shortall is entering his final year of psychiatry residency and will be serving as Chief Resident in 2023. He has professional interests in addiction psychiatry to include providing treatment for opiate use disorder (OUD) as a consulting inpatient psychiatrist. He is from Long Beach, CA and transitioned from a business career to medicine after discovering an interest in psychiatry while providing humanitarian aid to Latin American refugees. He has presented at numerous conferences on topics pertinent to Consult-Liaison (CL) psychiatry including: establishing an benzodiazepine discontinuation protocol for elderly medically hospitalized patients, establishing a buprenorphine/naloxone consult service, maintaining said patients in outpatient treatment after being initiated on opiate agonist treatment, and the syndrome of irreversible lithium-induced neurotoxicity. He has a special interest of providing psychiatric care to Spanish speakers and intends to complete further training in the treatment of addictions.
