Dr. E. Sherwood Brown is Vice Chair for Clinical Research, Chief of the Division of Clinical Neuroscience and Director of the Clinical Research Infrastructure in the Department of Psychiatry at UT Southwestern. His research focuses on depression and bipolar disorder as well as co-morbidities of mood disorders including medical illness, cognitive impairment and substance use. Another side of his research focuses on the effects of corticosteroids on the human brain, particularly their effects on cognition and the hippocampus. The vast majority of his research studies include clinical trials and many have focused on cognition. Thus, he is very familiar with clinical trial design, blinding and randomization procedures, participant recruitment and data analysis. He is board certified in both Psychiatry and the subspecialty of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry. Dr. Brown has well over 20 years of experience conducting research in depressed patients and has ongoing and recent research support on this topic.
