Dr. Suarez is an assistant professor of Psychiatry and is currently in her final stage of the Clinician Investigator Training Program at Mayo Clinic. She completed a qualitative research study exploring psychological distress in heart failure patients and now expanding this work to Latinx. Moreover, Dr. Suarez studies psychosocial risk factors in patients with myocarditis and their caregivers. Her line of research has centered on Psychocardiology with over 20 publications. She earned her medical degree at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogota, Colombia, where she is a licensed general practitioner and worked after completing medical school. She completed a research fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital Cardiac Psychiatry Research Program and subsequently completed a psychiatry residency and a Consultation-Liaison Fellowship at Mayo Clinic. Dr. Suarez will be joining the Mayo Clinic Psychiatry and Psychology department to expand the outpatient Consultation-Liaison practice to include Psychocardiology. Additional clinical interests include transplant Psychiatry and. Dr. Suarez has worked closely with Latinx communities and is actively engaged in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion education and practice. She developed an educational curriculum on Culturally Responsive Psychiatric Practice for trainees and is currently helping deliver this content. Dr. Suarez has received multiple awards for her scholarly, humanitarian, and clinical work, including the MJ Martin, Neva Petersen, and the Mayo Distinguished Brothers Awards. Additionally, she has been part of the AAGP Scholar Program, the ACLP William Webb Fellowship, the ACP Laughlin Fellowship, and the Distinguished Service for Diversity and Inclusion in Education at Mayo Clinic Department of Psychiatry and Psychology.
