Dr. Maria Tiamson-Kassab is an educator and clinician who has made and continues to make significant contributions to the clinical and academic aspects of consultation-liaison psychiatry. She has written articles on capacity evaluation, burnout in HIV healthcare workers, and management of HIV patients in refereed journals and co-authored several editions of the Practical Guide to C-L Psychiatry. She has made several national and regional presentations on various topics in Consultation-Liaison or Psychosomatic Medicine. Dr. Tiamson-Kassab has made outstanding contributions to the Department of Psychiatry at New York Medical College where she was the Director of AIDS Psychiatry for 10 years. She has been honored by the Veterans’ Administration with the VA Secretary Hands and Heart Award. Dr. Tiamson-Kassab was awarded the Distinguished Fellow Award of the American Psychiatric Association and she is a Fellow of the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry. She was a past President and Assembly Representative to the APA of the Psychiatric Society of Westchester in New York. In San Diego, she was the Assembly Representative to the APA of the San Diego Psychiatric Society. She was Associate Chief of Psychiatry at the VA San Diego. In UCSD, she was the Medical Director of the Moores Cancer Center Psychiatry & Psychology Services. In addition, she is the immediate Past President of the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry. She is currently the chair of the APA Council on C-L Psychiatry. Dr. Tiamson-Kassab is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of California, San Diego.
