Dr. Eileen Burker is a Professor in the Division of Clinical Rehabilitation & Mental Health Counseling (CRMH) at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She is also an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and she is the clinical psychologist for the UNC Heart Transplant, Lung Transplant and LVAD programs. She earned her B.A. degree in Psychology from Rider University. She earned a M.A. degree in Rehabilitation Counseling with an emphasis in Vocational Evaluation and a Master’s level certificate in Gerontology from the University of Georgia. She earned a M.S. degree and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Auburn University. Dr. Burker completed an APA-approved internship in Clinical Psychology at Duke University Medical Center. Following internship she was awarded a two-year NIH Post-doctoral fellowship in Behavioral Medicine at Duke University Medical Center. Upon completion of the fellowship, she joined the faculty of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Burker’s research interests parallel her clinical work and include quality of life pre- and post-heart transplant, lung transplant, and LVAD. She is also interested in coping, optimism and locus of control as predictors of quality of life pre- and post-transplant, and in end-stage heart and lung disease, and the relationship between spirituality and religious coping and quality of life. Dr. Burker has published in the area of quality of life and transplant and her work can be found in medical and psychology journals via PubMed and PsycInfo.
