Rachel Shmuts DO is an Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Southern New Jersey. She serves as the inaugural Vice Chair of Education of the Department of Psychiatry at Rowan SOM. She graduated from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey School of Osteopathic Medicine in 2009 and pursued her general adult psychiatry residency training at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. She then completed a fellowship in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania, where she discovered her clinical passion in women’s mental health. She returned to her alma mater when she started a women’s mental health clinic and eased into several academic roles and contributed to the medical school’s curriculum reform. She served as the Brain and Behavior Block Director for first year medical students, Human Sexuality Intersession Director for second year medical students, Clerkship Director for third year medical students, and Psychiatry Residency Program Director. Dr. Shmuts also consults for transcranial magnetic stimulation and volunteers in her community. She is also certified as a perinatal mental healthcare provider.
