Associate Professor of Ophthalmology
Flaum Eye Institute, University of Rochester Medical Center
Rochester, New York
I am an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology, a vitreoretinal surgeon, and the Director of Population Eye Health at the Flaum Eye Institute in the University of Rochester, where I conduct research in public and population health outcomes and implementation science. My focus is on studying how population level data sets can base used to identify opportunities for implementing interventions that improve behaviors, processes, and systems that improve eye and vision health outcomes especially for at risk populations, such as older adults. Such work has identified and is addressing health equity and disparities. My research necessitates collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of public health, data science, implementation science, and biostatisticians and colleagues in different specialists, such as neurology, psychiatry, and cardiology in the US and abroad. My research also parallels my administrative and clinical work that aim to improve access to eye care for at risk populations and ensure that populations adopt behaviors that are conducive to eye health to prevent and limit the advancement of eye disease and vision loss at the population level. With local community and health insurance foundation support, I have created, sustained, and grown a remote imaging based teleophthalmology program called Tele-I-Care to increase access to eye health surveillance for populations at risk for eye disease, including older adults and those with diabetes.
I do not have any relevant financial / non-financial relationships with any proprietary interests.
