Dr. Samir Abu-Hamad completed his undergraduate studies in International Affairs at Georgetown University, focusing specifically on Biotechnology and Global Health and its intersection with International Development. He then went on to work at a global health policy think tank in Washington DC, while obtaining his MS in Applied Economics from Johns Hopkins University. He has since completed medical school at Eastern Virginia Medical School where he continued his dedication to helping underserved communities locally and internationally through his leadership role within the local student-run free clinic as well as his work with the Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh. He is currently in residency training at UT Southwestern’s combined Internal Medicine/Psychiatry program, looking to dedicate his career to improving access to healthcare (and specifically mental health) in communities and countries that are currently underserved. He also has interests in psychoanalysis, cultural psychiatry, CL psychiatry, integrative medicine, and inpatient psychiatry.
